Accessing healthcare services doesn’t have to be difficult, even if you don’t currently have a family doctor. There are many supports available for Haisla members and others in the Kitimat area to help stay on top of health and wellness needs.

Don’t Have a Doctor? Help is Available

If you live in Kitimat and don’t have a regular healthcare provider, the following services are available:

  • Northern Health Virtual Clinic – Open daily from 10 am to 10 pm. Speak with a doctor or nurse practitioner by calling 1-844-645-7811.
  • First Nations Health Authority Doctor of the Day – A virtual care service for First Nations people, available seven days a week from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Call 1-855-344-3800 to make an appointment.
  • HealthLink BC (811) – Call 811 to speak with a health service navigator and get connected to registered nurses, dietitians, exercise professionals, and pharmacists.

Cancer Screening Services in British Columbia

Early detection through screening can improve treatment outcomes. BC Cancer offers screening programs for:

  • Breast cancer
  • Cervix cancer
  • Colon cancer
  • Lung cancer

Appointments can be booked through local clinics or online at CanScreenBC.com. For those who require further support, resources are available to help with travel, accommodations, and community connection.

Pharmacy Services in British Columbia

Pharmacists are an important part of your healthcare team. In addition to filling prescriptions, they can now:

  • Assess and treat minor ailments such as UTIs, rashes, pink eye, and headaches
  • Renew or adjust prescriptions, including emergency refills
  • Provide immunizations including flu, COVID-19, and shingles
  • Prescribe contraceptives (available free to BC residents)
  • Offer medication reviews for those taking multiple prescriptions

These services are free for BC residents. When visiting a pharmacy, bring government-issued ID and your Personal Health Number. If a prescription cannot be refilled at the pharmacy and you do not have a healthcare provider, contact the Northern Health Virtual Clinic at 1-844-645-7811.
