Registered Haisla Members can now apply for a fully funded Health Care Assistant Certificate program through Thompson Rivers University. The program is delivered online. A cohort start date has not yet been confirmed, but it is expected to begin in September or October 2025.

Minimum requirements:
- Verified copy of high school transcripts for TRU assessment
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- Must pass a Criminal Record Check for working with vulnerable adults and children
- May require a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for employment
- Immunization records, including TB testing
- First Aid with CPR-C and Food Safe certification
- Access to a computer with audio/video and high-speed internet
TRU admission requirements:
- Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent (with transcripts)
- Two of the following Grade 10 English courses or equivalents:
- Composition, Creative Writing, Literary Studies, New Media, Spoken Language
- English First Peoples (EFP) versions of the above
- Graduates before 2020: English 10 is accepted
- English language competency for non-native speakers (as per BC Care Aide Registry)
- Basic computer and internet skills
Recommended qualifications:
- Completion of Grade 11 or equivalent
- One of the following Grade 11 English courses or equivalents:
- Composition, Creative Writing, Literary Studies, New Media, Spoken Language
- EFP versions of the above
- Graduates before 2020: English 11 is accepted
- Volunteer experience in a residential care facility, especially with seniors
