Haisla Nation achieves FMB’s highest level of financial management certification
HAISLA NATION, B.C. – Haisla Nation, located on British Columbia’s northern coast, recently achieved Financial Management System (FMS) Certification from the First Nations Financial Management Board (FMB). This certification is a significant milestone for the Nation, affirming that Haisla Nation meets rigorous international standards in financial performance, management practices, and accountability.

“I am so proud of our team and congratulate them on this exciting milestone,” says Haisla Nation Elected Chief Councillor Maureen Nyce. “Not only does this certification recognize the hard work our team undertook to ensure our Nation is positioned to capitalize on our incredible learnings to date, but it also marks an important step forward in our journey toward financial independence, as we embark on a period of generational growth. With stronger financial and governance systems in place, our Nation is well-positioned to take on transformative initiatives that benefit our members today and those to come.”

Speaking to the journey toward FMS Certification, Director of Finance Doris Fraser adds, “Working with the Financial Management Board audit team was a rewarding experience. This process focused on evaluating our governance systems, incorporating membership priorities, and ensuring transparent reporting back to our members. It marks a significant milestone for Haisla, and I’m truly honoured to have contributed to it.”

For Haisla Nation, FMS Certification lays the groundwork for nation-building. It equips the Nation with the financial infrastructure needed to expand governance, deliver services more effectively, and pursue large-scale projects that support long-term prosperity.

“With stronger financial systems, the Nation is better positioned to take on transformative initiatives that benefit our community today and for generations to come,” says Fraser. The achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of the entire finance team and leadership, she says, and signals a new chapter in the Nation’s journey toward financial independence and sustainable growth.
