Six-week Class 1 MELT program starts Sept 14, 2026 with Philcan at KVI and Terrace

The Class 1 MELT (Mandatory Entry-Level Training) Program is a provincially required training program in British Columbia for individuals seeking to obtain a Class 1 commercial driver’s licence. This program includes both classroom instruction and practical, hands-on driving experience to prepare participants to safely operate commercial vehicles and meet licensing requirements.


Participants will work toward meeting the standards necessary for the Class 1 licence, including completing required training components, evaluations, and preparation for the road test.

 

Pre Requisites

  • Valid Driver’s Licence
    • Hold a valid Class 5 or Class 6 driver’s licence (full licence preferred)
    • Have a satisfactory driving record (no more than 4 points on record)
  • Age Requirement
    • Be 19 years of age (the minimum age to hold a Class 1 licence in BC)
  • Medical Examination
    • Complete a Commercial Driver Medical Examination and be medically fit to operate a commercial vehicle
  • Air Brake Requirements
    • Class 1 learner’s licence (will be offered before the program)
  • Commitment to Attend
    • Agree to attend all classroom and practical training sessions.
    • Complete assignments, evaluations, and road test preparation requirements.
