HISTORY
1884 Anti Potlatch law adopted and enforced by the Federal Government.
1951 Funding transferred to finance churches operate schools to assimilate children - Anti Potlach Law repealed - as of yet no Federal dollars to - repatriate the culture
Mar 1978 A statement of intent was submitted to Office of Native Claims. The Haisla Claim was presented to the Federal government in 1978 and accepted by the Honorable Hugh Faulkner.
Sept 1992 First Nations Summit, Canada and B.C., establish B.C. Treaty Commission.
Dec 15, 1993 The Statement of Intent submitted to the British Columbia Treaty Commission.
Dec 15, 1993 Statement of Intent accepted by British Columbia Treaty Commission.
Sept 9, 1994 Haisla Nation submits Statement of Intent to British Columbia Treaty Commission - Stage 1 completed Stage 2 begins.
Jan 9, 1995 Haisla Hereditary Chiefs sign “Haisla Hereditary Chiefs’ Declaration” to support Kitamaat Village Council entering Treaty negotiations with the Federal and Provincial governments.
Feb 16, 1995 Kitamaat Village Council’s Chief Councillor and Councillors sign Haisla declaration to enter Treaty Negotiations with the Federal and provincial governments.
May 16, 1995 BCTC declares Haisla Nation ready to negotiate - Stage 3 begins.
Sept 1995 The Kitamaat-Skeena Regional Advisory Committee was established to service both Haisla and Tsimshian Negotiations.
Nov 10, 1995 Procedure Agreement signed with Federal, Provincial and Haisla governments.
Nov 17, 1995 Tripartite Openness Protocol signed between all three parties.
Nov 17, 1995 Information Principle signed between all three parties.
Nov 30, 1995 BCTC declares Canada ready to negotiate.
Nov 30, 1995 British Columbia Treaty Commission BCTC declares Haisla Treaty table ready to negotiate.
May 3, 1996 Framework Agreement date initialed.
May 12, 1996 The Haisla Nation signs Framework Agreement and enters Stage 4 of BCTC Treaty Negotiations with Federal and Provincial governments.
Feb 4, 2004 The Haisla Nation signs the Haisla Forestry/Range agreement wth Her Majesty the Queen in Right of the Province of British Columbia. Read the document Here
