Haisla Community School
Principal/Special Education Teacher
Kitamaat Village Council is seeking a half time Principal to join us in assisting with the
educating of our future leaders. The other half time will be spent teaching in the Special
Education Program.
The successful candidate will be personable and energetic, and will have:
• A minimum of a Bachelor of Education;
• Member of BC College of Teachers;
• Minimum of five (5) years teaching experience in a First Nations setting;
• Excellent interpersonal, counseling, and communication skills;
• A knowledge of the BC School curriculum;
• A knowledge of Special Education Programs, teaching and evaluation
methods;
• Knowledge of First Nations Language/Culture and education needs.
Salary is based on education and experience. Interested individuals should submit a

SPECIAL NEEDS TEACHER ASSISTANTS
(2) position
• One position to meet the needs of an autistic child requiring individual assistance;
• One position to meet the needs of a child requiring individual assistance with Social and Language developmental disabilities.
Qualifications:
• Post-secondary education in Teaching Assistant or Developmental Disabilities
Certificate Program or related area;
• Currently enrolled in Teaching Assistant courses;
• Experience working with primary and intermediate school aged children, one-onone;
• Knowledge of Haisla culture an asset;
• Able to communicate with low-verbal/non-verbal children;
• Willing and able to pass a Criminal Record Check.
Preference will be given to candidates who:
• have knowledge of the Haisla culture,
• have teaching experience in a First Nations School,
• have experience in multi-grade settings.
Hours of work: 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday
Duties to commence: ASAP
Hourly pay: In accordance with the BCGEU Support Staff Collective Agreement
